For this Assignment we were asked to create characters for a new and upcoming childrens book that could be optionally educational

Initially i began with brainstorms to establish existing characters from books and films such as "A bugs life" and subsequently "Looney tunes" and analyse how they appeal and relate to their intended audiences. The outcome of this was that many have human characteristics applied to them in the form of expressions, clothes and actions and i would have to bear this in mind with my designs.
The research aided me significantly and this is displayed in my hand drawn designs in which some animals are dressed or in the Skunks case, on a skateboard. An educational incorporation can be seen with the lizards tongue being shaped into words to help develop spelling at a young age.
The development stage consisted of transferring the designs into Adobe Illustrator and live tracing and, eventually live painting to bring each character to life. The final products are displayed above i believe they could have easily been transferred into picture books or a feature length film as each has a varying personality, (Such as the tough rhino cop) and the audience could relate to this

As a keen gamer and regular at the cinema, the characters are of specific interest, especially the process in which paper designs are initiated, developed and subsequently animated to fit the genre and purpose of the game/film ideals. It is this insight i hope to gain and that urged me to apply for the course at hand, bringing with me fresh ideas that i can develop into my own characters.

At present football plays a big role in my life, with both attending matches and playing for the local Semi professional team keeping me busy and active. If possible i would aim to join the University team if one exists and would also help in establishing new friends and settling in the area.
My part time job at Next currently takes twelve hours a week from my schedule which is not excessive in my view and is something i enjoy, with meeting new people being the catalyst. With course acceptance from yourselves i would be anxious to transfer to a Manchester store to keep this alive.
